‘An ABC of Cypriot-English’ is a picture book which focuses on the connections between language, history and storytelling. These prints are visual interpretations of terminology from a slang dialect spoken in North London, primarily by the British-Cypriot population. I have combined the Greek-English (“Grenglish”) words with stamped print and collaged imagery, referring to Cyprus’ rich history, which bridge the gap between the words and their cultural meaning. The prints don’t include English translations, as the book is intended for teaching a first-language, or in this case, a dialect.

The Grenglish dialect is rapidly in decline, so I created this book intending to contribute to the conservation effort.
