This domestic side chair is designed to fit easily within a hand-held box. The chair’s construction allows it to be dismantled into its component parts, making it convenient to transport from the warehouse to the shop and to the home. This design project evolved into an investigation into the stability of a chair constructed from disassembled parts. The process involved refining the chair’s form to enhance its functionality as a disassemblable product. Within the constraints of disassembly, the design process delved into the structural and manufacturing possibilities, transitioning from welded frames to bolted frames. This development of the frame was driven by the goal of enhancing both the chair’s stability and the user experience. The bolted frame not only improves stability but also highlights the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment that comes from self-assembly. This approach celebrates the user’s role in constructing their furniture, offering both practicality and personal involvement.
