A ceramic garden stool design to utilize the existing production techniques and materials used in the sanitaryware industry.

The Cast stool is an exploration into the industrial process of high-pressure casting. A form of slip casting used for the mass manufacturing of sanitaryware, involving a porous acrylic resin mould and high pressure, creating a hollow cast object.

Vitreous China is the type of clay used to produce many high-pressure cast products, due to its low water absorption properties making it hygienic, as well as being high strength and durable. These relevant material properties also make it suitable for outdoor furniture.
Exposing a gap in the market to create an affordable outdoor ceramic seat.

The Cast ceramic stool has been designed to fill this gap. The form is organic with a slot allowing for water drainage and movement, along with a rubber base ring for surface protection. To be sold in garden centres and available in three colours, ensuring there is one for everyone.

The design is influenced by an Ideal Standard factory tour and backed by industry experts. As well as being sponsored by leading ceramic designer Robin Levien, responsible for designing 15% of all bathroom products sold in the UK.
