The project rebrands Chatham’s historic dockyard into a soap factory, bath, and handmade soap retail area, inspired by its rope-making history. A bottle-shaped hemp soap souvenir pays homage to hemp’s significance in the 18th-century rope industry while subtly addressing local issues. The transformation of the No.1 Workbase and Armour Plate shop into a contemporary soap factory blends heritage with modern functionality, aiming to evolve into a successful local cosmetic brand. The building will serve as a sustainable soap production centre and interactive community hub, promoting circular economy principles and climate awareness. Rebranded as ‘Chatham Bubble,’ the project aims to unite locals and visitors through soap making and inclusive bath experiences, fostering resilience and promoting mental well-being.
