My FMP ‘Seconds?’ has been all about creating connections between people through the universally relatable subject of food. My final piece is an apron for two to physically connect two people, forcing them to interact and co-ordinate to perform a shared task in a restricted space.

I discovered through research that connection in the preparation of a meal is generally less friendly than in dining. The kitchen can be a very vulnerable place when other people are involved in the cooking process. My final design aims to combat this by placing people within the uncomfortable, vulnerable situation, inviting them to take it slow and be at risk of getting into an argument over what spices to put in or what utensils to use. Within the context of your everyday home kitchen, it aims to reinforce the existing relationship between two people in a more impractical, inefficient, and awkward way.
