My proposal outlines an extension of the Kingston Library, Museum and Art Gallery, as well as the Knights Park Library at KSA (Kingston School of Art), transforming the former Kingfisher Leisure Centre into a comprehensive public, council owned facility featuring a library, individual and collaborative workspaces, and an exhibition gallery on the ground floor. I aim to enhance the current arts scene within Kingston Town Centre whilst simultaneously adding to its well established academic value.

Central to my proposal is the exploration of themes that balance comfort, lighting, and functional spaces, contributing to the overall enhancement of the arts and academic environment in Kingston Town Centre. This is achieved through the implementation of architectural strategies demonstrated in Glenn Murcutt’s Marika-Alderton House, from which I drew a lot of inspiration. The key strategies that he implemented that I wanted to include upon further reflection and consideration were: natural cooling, ventilation, heating and lighting.
