‘Neighbourhood watch’ is a film installation created from my research and questioning of whether we have privacy in a modern world. I was inspired by my own interaction with privacy in my neighbourhood and how by living in London you are surrounded by windows and other people’s space, with not much privacy to oneself. I wanted to show window voyeurism and the access we have into other people’s private space, through a film, inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s film, ‘Rear Window.’ The fabric hanging is intended to look like curtains, two of them are made from voile which is a transparent material, alluding to glass and looking into one’s space. The first curtain is a fabric print of my bedroom window to show my bedroom’s perspective into neighbouring houses, while the other two have printed words which speak to my thoughts during the process of filming.
