For my project I have designed a two-piece ruffle set. The candy colour hues and the thick layers of ruffles mimic the explosive colours and birthday decorations, banners, confetti, sashes. The cascade of ruffles also represents the unnecessary “frills, the excessive buying birthday demand. The outfit explosive colours and frills that hug the upper torso portray the anxiety enduring nature of birthdays. How you feel like you are drowning in expectation to have a fun day, just as the wearer in drowning in frills. The fun and overstimulating colons pared with the excessive fabric put on a circular crinoline cage consume the body making it into an ambiguous silhouette. The ruffles are double sided with dark on the base and colour in the front, the dark coloured and exposed from movement like dancing, as seen in my film. The reveal of the greys reflects how even in our most joyous moments on our birthday we still feel sad, anxious due to the pressure of the day.

The unnecessary “frills” of Birthdays. Drowning in bright colours and the expectation of a good day.
