‘An Alpine Gentleman’ is a dedication to my late grandfather, a story of his love for Switzerland and dressing like the British gentleman he was. Using his photo albums of his Swiss adventures with my grandmother as a visual diary, I was able to translate them into a collection of personal garments. Combining this with my own Swiss heritage resulted in an exploration of surface design influenced by the rich Swiss textile history. The hand drawn floral prints reference the vast array of Swiss alpine plants, serving to enhance the tailored silhouettes. I explored traditional tailoring techniques and used my grandfather’s clothes as source pieces. The collection was an aim to combine classic menswear characteristics with traditional Swiss fashion and textiles , and honouring my grandfather’s love that I was fortunate enough to receive.
