Born from the repetitive erasure of LGBTQ+ stories from historical records, this project aims to bring awareness and joy to stories that haven’t necessarily been heard. Consisting of set-building, prop-making and puppetry specifically designed for stop-motion animation, ‘Patterns in Secrecy’ is a craft and making project informed by anecdotal recordings, auto-ethnography and archival research. With hidden details and references to past signals and signs within the community, its story lies both in the narrative and in the set design. The processes involved are laser cutting, armature-building, clay modelling, fabric manipulation, woodwork, material weathering and detailing.
