Aimed to design a public furniture which makes people to communicate in various angles and bring them a fun and comforts although they are in the urban space.
I’ve made a research on relationship between peoples’ behavior and the urban space to see what kind of elements effects peoples’ communication angles. Among them, the most noticeable difference was the difference between the density of people in natural space and the density of people in the urban space compared to the same area. I was interested in this part and thought about the public space and people’s interaction.
When I went around and researched two types of Urban space myself, I found that people in Urban space had limited communication angles and postures. Unlike nature, which allows you to take a position freely, it usually occurs because people sit on a straight long bench and talk to each other. I wanted to create an attitude where people can communicate freely and diverse the communication angles by putting them in a intended position with my design.
This ‘Hop’ gives people various of angles while they are in the conversation. Adding different heights made much more enjoyable elements and gave people options how to position themselves on that furniture. This will make people much more fun and feel freedom during the conversation.
The chair can spin by itself because there are bearings inside each legs and also it has wheel and the foot break on the bottom of each seat, which is adding fun by making people to stamp their foot and move themselves while they are in the communication angle. People can also use different height of the seats (45, 75, 110cm) as table or seats or footrest at a same time.
