Rebirth of Craftsmanship
The project is for Chatham. Full of History, Chatham’s pride is the Chatham’s Historical Dockyard. The Dockyard used to be a place of making. Making ships, submarines, and ropes with machineries. It was then closed and some craftmanship identity of the place faded as well.
My project wants to bring back the ‘Making’ identity of Chatham. Celebrate the idea of crafting. While there are a few art centre in Chatham, they were not as present as how the Chatham Historical Dockyard was.
CARNIVAL CRAFT CENTRE
Chatham was known to be avoided by visitors, however I found that events from Chatham like Carnivals does bring visitors to Chatham. People from other areas visit Chatham to enjoy carnivals. The art centers and the people of Chatham creates their Carnival Crafts and join parades every year.
Therefore, My project is to make a Carnival Craft Centre for Chatham.
Paper from Leaves
In addition to this, I looked into ways to make Carnival Crafts more environmentally friendly. I researched into creating Paper crafts from leaves in this project. To be included as the program of the Chatham’s Carnival Craft Centre.
Installed ‘Carnival Tents’ into the existing building for a new function as a ‘Carnival Crafts Centre’.
