My project is called Cheers! It is about how and why we celebrate. Initially I looked at folk celebrations, I was interested in the costumes, rituals and heritage. I made my own folk inspired ceremony that we did as a 3D class to commemorate the end of term 2. However I didn’t know where to go from there. One thing I took from making my own ceremony was that despite it having all the attributes of a ceremony it didn’t feel ceremonious. This made me realise the importance of time when it comes to celebrations; time for them to become special things that feel important, time to plan, time to setup, time to do. So, I disregarded all of this and instead went about designing something that would enable instant celebration. It isn’t a real world product or solution to a problem but an unserious device to talk about how much fun it is to celebrate things and how much there is to celebrate. I came up with the phrase ’emergency celebration’ and it was this visual language that inspired the life jacket design. The worst scenario you could find yourself in would be stranded with fantastic news and no ability to celebrate immediately.

Take action, celebrate!
