For my final piece I have created a costume for Juliet, in my version of Romeo and Juliet, to represent ballet in 100 years. In my version, Romeo and Juliet are literally ‘Star Parted Lovers’ as Romeo lives on mars and Juliet lives on earth, the costume was made for the balcony scene in which Juliet is trying to reach Romeo on Mars. I made a skirt and top which reference ideas of space travel but also traditional ballet costumes (for the 1600-1900’s). The skirt is reversible to convey different emotions in the film which is inspired by the silhouette of a spaceship’s engine; the dark side conveys emotions of desire and sadness as she has just been separated from Romeo and the pink and white side conveys romance and happiness as she sees him again. The top reminds people of a parachute to suggest Juliet is stuck on earth.
