I originally began this project seeking out what characterises the modern gothic genre, since the gothic is a genre widely associated with the Victorian era, little has become customary in whatever remains of it in the 21st century. I answered this question by exploring the quote from popular feminist writer Angela Carter in which she states: “We live in gothic times”. Gothic novels have always been a mouthpiece for people to discuss their social fears, therefore in my film acts as the mouthpiece of the social fears of the 21st century. I used gothic tropes established by Victorian writers in combination with popular culture imagery to create a bizarre newscast that reflects the equal bizarreness of sitting down and watching the news in the culture we live in.
