If the project Agora Kingston were food, it would be mayonnaise. Like oil and water co-exist in mayonnaise, wide variety of people co-exist in there.  I redesigned KU bar + beer garden into the space encourages cross sectional interaction. The space is designed based on the concept of “arch-tone” that is inspired by ecotone in biological term, which aim to make rich in-between space by making two different types of spaces.

Cracked-roof space is the space for solitude to interweaving people need alone time into the space. light from the crack help them to keep appropriate distance. the distance is not for separation but for observing others to internalize their point of view, which is the first step to build social relationship.

Grass-covered non-linear space is used for various purposes, walking through, sleeping on it, using as bench and desk.  This means the design encourage people stay physically near the different group of people, which advocate overhearing and it allows them blend in with the community.

Somewhere neither workplace nor home is vital to survive in today’s hectic and stressful world.

    Third place will never die.

Apparently, people paying for talking to psychoanalysts are increasing, there should be family and friends for it.
