Graduation Film Projects

‘Invisible Tenant’ is a short film that delves into themes such as sisterhood, the supernatural, and psychological horror. This was part of our course’s ‘Graduation Film Project’. Set in the modern day, the main character, Jade, is an apprentice real estate agent looking to sell Penwick Manor in pursuit of a promotion. The secondary character, Flora, is a soon-to-be university student who joins her older sister in her journey. Throughout the film, both sisters unravel the hidden history behind the house, eventually leading them to meet the ghost who haunts this property, Emily Penwick. Emily possesses Flora, which in turn leads to the stabbing of her older sister.

‘Defocus’ is a documentary that explores a Hong Kong expatriate who revisits the transformed streets of her youth. Throughout the film, in a series of letters, she grapples with her homeland’s alienation and the symbolic loss of her mother. Inspiration included the works of Chris Marker’s ‘Sans Soleil’ and Wang Bo’s ‘An Asian Ghost Story’. Marker’s French documentary delves into human psychology, specifically how humans struggle to recall past memories, shifting our perceptions of personal and global events.
