My project explores the complex and misunderstood world of pigeons.
Racing pigeons can race up to 600 miles from Barcelona to the UK in 2 days. They are super navigators and resilient athletes. Despite being the same breed with the same capabilities, feral pigeons will never make this journey due to the life they’ve been set up with.
I have made a scroll to tell them their capabilities. It consists of the journey from Barcelona to Kingston and is written entirely in a pigeon language that I’ve made up by taking inspiration from their different types of coos.
I have made a human scale translation of this scroll so we too can understand their capabilities. Each pigeon scroll is paired with a bag of oats in order to entice them.
I have made a film of me showing the pigeons my scroll in various different locations proving that it takes patience, but eventually they will listen.
Don’t let their navigation abilities go to waste.
