Once there was a girl.

In the small Welsh town of Brycheiniog, lives Dwynwen, a girl who is perfectly fine with how things are going.
Probably.

But when her Childhood Friend turned Rugby Golden Boy Maelon returns from his travels outside of the Village with plans of settling down and establishing his future, what will Dwynwen do when his sights are set on her?

Santes Dwynwen is a graphic novel investigating the story of the Welsh Saint of Love, Santes Dwynwen in a modern setting, and how the ancient stories can still have poignant messages about contemporary life. It embraces, but ultimately challenges small towns, as well as the social expectations put on women to live as everybody else, and how diverse thought can function within a society like it.

With a combination of ink wash, line, and digital colouring, Santes Dwynwen questions the place of tradition and modernity by contrasting these mediums, seeing storytelling in all aspects of visual language.

“Weren’t you friends, once?”

An exploration of agency and the consequences of allowing life to wash over you, Santes Dwynwen follows Dwynwen, a girl with a name steeped in myth and a life she’s perfectly OK with, probably.
