For my FMP I have been looking at Different attitudes towards material ownership, particularly Minimalism and Maximalism. And how these two ‘philosophys’ have influenced Art and design movements.
For my final piece I have developed a system for recycling household objects into simple sustainable products. The system I have designed takes from both ends of the Material culture spectrum ; its focus on repurposing objects has the resourceful ‘ani-consumer’ aspects of Minimalist Design. While the products exciting character and ability to be a form of self-expression of the owners’ possessions shows elements of Maximalist design. I wanted to make these products as accessible as possible, so I developed a set of instructional guides to show how to construct them. making this design democratic and achievable to al . Their processes and principles are not exclusive to a particular design ethic.
