Projecting Gradients

What if we took a finishing process and started with it? Projecting gradients began as a material exploration into metal’s relationship to powder coating finishes. Restrictive metal bodies are used to project, direct or limit the amount of powder hitting another surface. A new language of objects emerges when objects are designed around and for these techniques. The Stencil table, is actually just that: a large stencil turned coffee table. The table is assembled once for powder coating and once for its final assembly, allowing for the limitation and projection of powder coating. Stencil exists as a legible first step for a potential collection of objects based off these principles.

An exploration and refinement of the intentional limiting of powder coating. Learning from testing, and producing a peice of furniture from the language these tests define.
