My final film 200 Years of Cuts is an animated piece of speculative fiction, imagining an alternate history in which Charles Darwin’s theory of Natural Selection was incorrect, and his opponent Jean-Baptiste Lamarck’s theory of the Inheritance of Acquired Characteristics was correct.
The story spans the 200 years after this discovery, depicting how three generations of a family change as the characteristics they acquire, such as muscle growth, injuries and tattoos are passed on to their children, and what kind of society this makes.
The story is depicted using phenakistoscopes for their hypnotic, cyclical imagery.
