A project exploring the balance of humour and signage in collaboration with Top Secret Comedy Club, Covent Garden. Combining the visual and linguistic elements of a ‘punky’ club to design functional yet considered signage. Another layer explores a more instillation style approach, engaging the behaviour of the space and exploring key theories within comedy. A jaunty typeface reflects the unexpected and spontaneous moments of stand-up and the underground feeling of the basement club. One of the signs, a convex mirror above the bar, asks customers to reflect on why they might not like a joke, using comedy as a mirror to interrogate our opinions.

As a designer I have started to explore the balance between humorous messaging and well crafted executions to ensure that the message is always taken seriously. If even one person would have their day improved due to my work, then I feel as though I have achieved excellence through my craft.
