My Project demonstrates the usefulness of unprocessed timber. Set in a woodland my protagonist, a forester, arrives intent on tending the land and eventually establishing a center for timber production. For these means I have designed two buildings – a house and a production facility using only wood immediately available on site. To save time this wood is unprocessed. By studying vernacular methods of timber construction I have identified and adapted building techniques to facilitate the use of timber early in its production cycle. Over the course of my project the structural and ecological advantages of raw timber revealed themselves, elevating it above a novelty or ornament to a genuine alternative method of construction.
