People leave traces of themselves wherever they go, through objects they leave behind, footprints they make, traces of movement in their body language…

In my work I have aimed to zoom in on these, often overlooked, traces and observe and connect people through them. My work mainly explores the discarded and lost objects found on the beach. By treating them as artefacts, I am able to learn about the people who owned them. The sea has connected me with people of the past through these objects, by uncovering them from the ground and transporting them, and my work aims to celebrate this connecting of strangers.

One of the stories I am telling is of an abandoned home. While exploring many abandoned buildings I was intrigued by both the sense of presence and absence of people in the spaces. The mystery of it made me want to find out everything about the people who had been there. I hope to make the audience excited about being immersed in the life of a stranger, and feel the same desire to investigate the lives of people who have been in this place. I also want them to feel the sense of loss I felt in these abandoned places.
