Mausoleum for a Magpie

Mausoleum for a Magpie is an authorial project with a key focus on world-building. The world is centered around a mausoleum structure that houses an urn for Magpie’s ashes. On the altar sits a handmade box which holds a collection of cast objects and etchings of objects that Magpie, as a scavenger, has collected over their life. The back wall of the mausoleum is covered with metal tokens of magpies inspired by religious shrines.

Drawing has always been central to my practice: a project tends to start with a pile of charcoal drawings laid out on my bedroom floor. I draw from a range of sources including life models in the studio, museums, galleries and archive photography. I then develop my drawing in other medium such as print and metal work constantly testing to push the boundaries of my materials.
