For my FMP I have been looking at non-verbal communication and body language. Computers are now able to analyse our facial expressions to understand complex emotions and identify exactly two people’s relationship. Soon this will also be possible for body language. At the moment however, these systems are not 100% accurate, with quite a large margin of error. I have explored this gap in the software, thinking about ways that it may be possible to get past the system.

My aim is to encourage people to think more about the way that they move and interact, to do things that may not be conventional or ‘normal’ so that we can break the system and prove that while this technology has many benefits, there may be something quite damaging to our individuality when it is used all the time.

Alongside the film, I have made a publication giving the reader ideas on ways that they could get past the system, using it as a tool to create strange shapes with their body.

I think her hands just laughed at me.
