Through the Die is an exploration into clay extrusion as an efficient production process within the ceramic industry.

The extrusion process allows transforming clay materials into precise and detailed ceramic shapes, guaranteeing high-quality and precise products. In the context of the ceramic industry, that’s growing and increasingly innovative, understanding the importance and peculiarities of clay extrusion is essential. How can we begin to challenge this process further?

I wanted to explore the possibilities and limitations that came with making a large scale extruder in the workshop. Knowing that I wanted to explore clay extrusions on a large scale, the application I have decided to explore further into is lighting, taking structural inspiration from aluminium extrusion dies. How can one create a series of lighting from a singular extrusion die?

When thin enough, porcelain can become translucent. I wanted to demonstrate porcelains natural properties once extruded, creating a series of lights that highlight the process of ceramic extrusion and porcelains translucent and fluid body.
