‘Shadows and whispers: Charting fear’

My project is on the topic of ‘Fear’. I specifically looked into what causes people to feel fear, whether fear can be categorised, and how have societal fears developed over time. Additionally, I researched the depiction of certain fears in artwork, and how certain art movements such as the Renaissance movement, influenced the ways in which artists presented and approached these subject matters. I took inspiration from the Chiaroscuro technique, commonly used during the 1500s and recreated my own ‘paintings’ photographically, with each of them displaying a specific societal fear. Each figure in each piece is wearing a selected garment reflecting a certain time period, ranging from BC to modern day times, to reveal how fear is not bound by time.

Film stills and plans for a selection of my photoshoots.
