“God Says” is a mystical ritual involving religion, language and communication. In a mockumentary format, the video captures the process of God’s messengers translating, misinterpreting or fabricating God’s will through a constant cycle of “listening” and “speaking”.
The voice of God and the voice of the messenger are intertwined in a loop. The word of God gradually changes from being clear and meaningful to being undecipherable in the noise of life and events. The messenger’s words progressively change from meaningless to an unordered combination of meaningful words, similar to the absurdity of Dada poetry.
The props in the video are made from paper mache and beads, to add a gorgeous texture without being too heavy.
