“Pulsation” is an art installation crafted using forged metal and colourless epoxy resin scales shaped through 3D printing. The central light emits beams that create rich visual effects through the resin’s transmission and refraction, producing a dispersed halo with regular motion. Due to its production costs, it is primarily intended for high-end public spaces such as hotel lobbies and bars.

Inspired by Anthony Howe’s wind sculpture installations, I am passionate about incorporating the mechanical beauty of industrial design into art. The durability, precision, and regularity of machinery captivate me. This installation is driven by an internal gear mechanism, which moves a cam system to orchestrate the orderly movement of the surrounding scales. The gear system’s hollow centre accommodates the light source, ensuring unobstructed illumination.

As humans transform nature, we often solidify landscapes and create static indoor environments. Through this project, I aim to bring a sense of vitality and dynamism to interior spaces.

Inspired by automotive internal combustion engine systems, this project evolved through continuous iterations. Sketches and 3D simulations were used to refine the desired effect, culminating in the creation and testing of a prototype.
